transferring to trails west hockey association

FOR PLAYERS WITH A HOCKEY CANADA REGISTRY NUMBER (HCR) THAT ARE MOVING TO TRAILS WEST FROM ANOTHER ASSOCIATION HERE IN CALGARY OR ACROSS ALBERTA AND CANADA

IMPORTANT:
INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS. The steps below are strictly for transfers within Canada. If you are transferring a player from an international association, please do not follow these steps. Instead, contact THWA Administrator at admin@trailswesthockey.com for specific instructions regarding international transfers.

STEP 1 : VERIFY

As of April 15, 2026, Hockey Alberta requires all parents to complete the Shift Forward program. Shift Forward replaces the Respect in Sport (RIS) program and is not an additional requirement.

IMPORTANT: If your Respect in Sport certification is expired or will expire for the upcoming season, one parent must complete the Shift Forward Parent course. Existing RIS certifications will continue to be honored until their expiry date.

An up-to-date Respect in Sport (RIS) – Parent or Shift Forward certificate is required for all transferring players to be approved.

Ensure your RIS certification is current. If it has expired, you will be required to complete the Shift Forward program. In 2026, Hockey Canada replaced the RIS program with its own internal program.
