Welcome to Trails West Hockey Association (TWHA)
TWHA registration is primarily completed online, using Hockey Canada’s registration platform. Please review the following 12 points carefully, before continuing on to the registration process.
Please note: TWHA is the provider of Minor Hockey programs for the communities of Christie Park, Coach Hill, Glamorgan, Glenbrook, Glendale, Patterson Heights, Rosscarrock, Signal Hill, Springbank Hill, Discovery Ridge, Strathcona Park, Westgate and Wildwood. You are responsible for ensuring that you are registering in the correct Minor Hockey Association. An administration fee may apply for a cancellation.
1. REGISTRATION TIMELINE
June 1, 2012 Registration opens
July 15, 2012 Final day for Regular Registration for all age groups except the Learn to Skate (LTS) program and Junior. Registration for those programs will remain open until a maximum of 65 skaters have enrolled for LTS and one or more complete Junior C teams.
July 16, 2012 First day of Late Registration for all age groups except the Learn to Skate program and Junior (Regular Registration fee plus $50)
August 12, 2012 Learn To Skate registration opens to residents living outside the TWHA boundaries. If you live outside of TW boundaries, please contact the Registrar @ registrar@trailswesthockey.com. If you're outside of the boundaries, do not register in the system as the registration will be cancelled.
August 12, 2012 Final day of Late Registration for all age groups except Learn to Skate program and Junior. Registration after this date requires approval by the relevant VP of Operations.
2. VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY:
After completing the online registration process, your registration will still not be completed until we have verified with you, via email, that you meet all membership requirements and that you child is in the correct age group (proof of age required). If Verification of Eligibility has not happened by Aug 15, please contact registrar@trailswesthockey.com. For all new registrants, we require proof of age (ie. birth certificate, passport), proof of residency (ie. utility or tax bill), and a Respect in Sport number (see below for the link).
3. HOW WE CONTACT YOU
Our primary method of contacting you is by email. You will be asked to provide up to 3 email addresses (ie: one for each parent). Please ensure that:
- Player/Participant: This is the only email address we will use to contact you prior to team formation. Make sure that this is the most often checked and reliable email address to contact your family - usually not the player's actual email address
- Parent #1: This is a secondary email address that can be used as a back up if the primary address is not getting through to your family
- Parent #2: A third email address. The parent email addresses are used after team formation.
If we cannot contact you by the player/participant email address provided, we cannot guarantee that you will receive critical information in a timely manner, including information regarding Conditioning Camps, Evaluations and team formation.
Attempting to put more than one email address in one data entry field will ensure that neither email address is recognized. Put only one email address in a data entry field!
After team formation, there will be an opportunity for others (family and friends) to subscribe to receive information about any team.
4. CHOOSING POSITIONS
For Atom and older, you have the option of choosing which position the player prefers to play. At the Atom level select from Goaltender, Defence, or Forward. For Pee Wee and older select from any option.
NOTE: For Atom, players choosing Defence or Forward will be expected to play both Defence and Forward
5. PAYMENT
Payment is by credit card only. “Trails West Hockey Association” will appear on your credit card statement. Information regarding financial assistance is available on the TWHA website and you can apply directly to the organizations that provide assistance.
Hockey Canada charges a $2 fee which is added to your TWHA registration. THWA receives no portion of this fee and plays no part in the implementation or processing of this fee.
Fees remain unchanged from the 2012/13 season.

7. KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT RECORDS
During the registration process you will create an account with a username and password. As well, your child(ren) will receive a Hockey Canada number. Keep this information for your records. You can return to your registration account any time to check registration status, change the password or reprint receipts. For returning members, use your account information from last year.
8. RESPECT IN SPORT
At least one parent of each player in any Hockey Calgary Association must complete the Respect in Sport online course. Visit here for more information and to take the course. Any player whose parent has not completed the course will not be permitted to practice or play games with his/her team until the course is completed.
Returning Registrants: Parents need only do Respect in Sport once. Have your Respect in Sport number at the ready prior to beginning the registration process.
9. EVALUATION PREPARATION CAMPS
Be sure your players are ready for evaluations by attending Evaluation Preparation Camps. Our Coach Development Coordinator is putting together a fantastic team of volunteers to provide your player with this cost effective way to brush off the summer dust from the skates!
This year camp registration and payment will be done separately from regular registration. Please watch the webiste for a link to Evaluation Preparation Camp registration.
Camps this year will be held within the August 25 - August 30 dates. Go to the Evaluation Preparation page for more details.
10. TRANSFER FROM OTHER CANADIAN ASSOCIATION
If your child has previously played minor hockey in Canada but is new to TWHA, you must provide the Registrar with the name and birth date of the player, the Player ID number assigned from Hockey Canada, if available, and details of his or her previous Minor Hockey Association. We will need to transfer the player to TWHA from the previous association before we can proceed with the registration. As this may take some time, please immediately contact registrar@trailswesthockey.com.
11. TRANSFER FROM OUTSIDE CANADA
If your child previously played minor hockey in another country, an International Transfer must be completed. You must provide the Registrar with the name and birth date of the player, details of his or her previous hockey organization and other information so that we can commence the transfer. Fees may apply. Immediately contact registrar@trailswesthockey.com.
